Monochrome Photo Editing Techniques for Android

It can be hard to give up beautiful colors in a picture, but a bw can take your picture to another level. Stripping it of colors will make the viewer focus on other things in your image.

Making a picture bw is not hard at all. The most basic method is to just drag down saturation to zero. But one can easily use different apps to work with a bw image to change the mood and enhance what you want the focus to be on, or give it a mood with a monochrome effect.

•sound and light•

I’ve found myself wishing for warm weather and the beach since it has gotten cold so I thought perhaps a beach photo would be a fun revisit. This year the only time I spent at the beach was in the early morning and evening strolling my 4 month old. It was such a sweet serene time for me

Process: opened the image in snapseed and put it through the tune image paces. Adjusting contrast, saturation, etc. The buildings in the background caused me a little trouble. I couldn’t get them dark enough without losing some of the color in the foreground so I darkened the image to get the houses in silhouette and hit save. Then reopened the image and edited the rest of the image to my liking. Hit save again. I then had two images- one with the houses how i liked them and one with the water how i liked it. Then I opened both in juxtaposer and replaced the buildings in the lighter version with the buildings in the darker version. Hit save. Took the whole shebang back over to snapseed to add a touch of old lens in the center focus feature keeping the blur at 5 to smooth some noise at the top of the photo. Hit save and then finished my coffee :)

Title: Shadow Play

Description:
I really love this shot. Meet Xia my beautiful God Daughter. I really like this shot because its one of the few shot I captured if her being still! So this is what happened. The day after my birthday celebration in Charlotte, NC. I’m sleeping in the guest room of my best friend’s house. I wake up to Xia running around the room playing. And what does any mobile photographer do when they see kids playing? They start snapping pictures that’s what! Lol.
Process: First I brought the photo into #Snapseed - Vintage - Style 5 - Texture 0 - Style 0. Second I used #VSCOCam #5 - Cropped to square. Next I bright that image to #Filterstorm - Blur 20% - Add original exposure - Mask - Gradient - Save.

Title: This Girl Sunday

Process: Shot with the native iPhone4 camera on a bright sunny day in TriBeCa.

In Snapseed, I cropped and adjusted the image in Tune Image, brightness to +5, saturation to +10, contrast to +2 and ambience to -5. Saved.

I uploaded the image in PXL and choose the dots. Saved.

In Image Blender, I uploaded both images, using the masks to erase all but the girl in the PXL image and left the main image intact. Finally I moved the PXL image to the left so it looked like a reflection. There you have it.
